DEN LEKANDE MÄNNISKAN

BEGREPPET "HOMO LUDENS" (den lekande människan) passar onekligen in på mej eftersom leksakssamlande har varit en av mina fritidssysselsättningar sen tidigt 1970-tal. Därför tycker jag att uppgiften att göra förlagor till frimärkena med leksaksmotiv passar mig som handen i handsken.

Först lite leksakshistoria. Vi kan väl anta att barn lekt med leksaker i alla tider men en av de första organiserade leksakstillverkarna var Kolman, en mästersmed från Augsburg som år 1516 tillverkade två ryttare som Maximilian I skänkte till den 10-årige Ludvig Il av Ungern.

På 1600-talet blev Nürnberg ett centrum för tillverkning och försäljning av leksaker. De kallades "Nürnbergerkram-varor" och bestod av kort, spel och metalleksaker. Leksakerna på medeltiden såg i stort sett ut som idag. Det var bollar, drakar, soldater, djur och drag- och skjutleksaker. En kuriös detalj i leksakshistorien är att innan hjulet fick någon praktisk användning hos aztekerna i Mexico så har man hos dem funnit leksaker med hjul.

Mina frimärksmotiv innehåller gamla och nya klassiker ur leksakslådan. Mina leksaksstilleben är grupperade som en liten tablå där jag vill att det skall se ut som barnet just tröttnat på leken för den här gången och just gått därifrån.

I mina bilder finns naturligtvis många klassiker som teddybjörnen, celluloiddockan, kottkon, de tidiga rätt summariska trädjuren, hopprepet, stenkulorna, Schucobilen och inte minst Briotåget, en av vår tids leksaksklassiker. Till sist dristar jag mig till att påstå att vi alla har ett behov av att leka även om det sublimeras i form av innebandy, konferensäventyr eller square dance, eller som Cicero sa: "Affärer kallas vuxna mäns lek"

The expression "Homo ludens" (the playing human) undoubtedly suits me since the collecting of toys has been one of my hobbies since the early 1970's. Therefore I find that the task of making the originals to stamps with toy motifs suits me like hand-in-glove. (The Swedish post organization introduced the 7th of October 2000 a series of 6 stamps designed by Mr. Lasse Aaberg)(editors note).

First a little toy history. Let us assume that children played with toys at all times but that one of the first organized toy manufacturers was Kolman, a mastersmith from Augsburg who in 1516 produced two riders which Maximilian the 1st gave to the 10-year old Ludwig II. of Hungary. 

In the 17th century Nuremberg became the center of production and sales of toys. They were called "Nuremberg play-goods" and looked largely as they do today. They were balls, dragons, soldiers, animals, pull-and-push toys. One curious detail in the history of toys is that in Mexico toys with weels have been found before the wheel had any practical use by the Aztecs.

My stamp motifs contain new and old classics from the toy box. My toy still lives are grouped as a little scene where I want it to look as if the child has grown tired of the game for this time and just left.

In my pictures there are of course classics like the teddy-bear, the celluloid doll, the pine cone cows, the simplified wooden animals, the skipping rope, the marbles, the "Schuco car", and last but not the least the "Brio train" one of the toy classics of our time. Finally I dare to argue that we all have a need to play even if it is sublimed into a form of hockey, conference adventures or square dance, or -as Cicero said- "business is the playing of grown-ups".
