BIOGRAPHY

Apostolos Yayannos was born in Greece, Tripolis, Peloponnese and currently lives and works in Athens. Initially a graphic artist, he did his debut as a painter in 1974 with great success. Ever since his works have been presented in more than 40 solo exhibitions in well-established art galleries of Greece, France, Belgium, England and Spain and he was invited to participate in a variety of thematic group exhibitions in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands and the USA. His creations form part of famous private and public collections around the world (including those of the Greek National Gallery and the Ministry of Culture) and some of them have been recorded in auction catalogues of Christie’s and Sotheby’s in London and Amsterdam.

Throughout his career, he has always been pursuing innovation and diversity of artistic expression, following the progressive tendencies of post-war Modernism. He has experimented with installations, worked extensively with mixed media, undertook the illustration of books by celebrated authors, and published on the Hellenic folk tradition and the shadow theatre.
