Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus
The dominating style of Ingehorg Hultcrantz Marcus oil painting is of expressionism.
The expressionist oil painting is Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus main means of expression. She describes the individual, her landscape - the gradual transition from natural to spiritual landccape.
Expressionism has ever since the turn of the century been an inportant part of Nordic art. Daring to release inner suppressed forces requires an honesty and openness that few can summon in everyday life. Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus dares to, and succeeds in giving us paintings of the inner forces that defy all limits. Room and space play a decisive role - room as experience, not its measures, but its boundlessness and spiritual contents.
The expressionism that lngeborg Hultcrantz Marcus develops is not always easy to grasp. Her paintings are related to artists like Staffan Hallström and Erland Cullberg.
The area around Simrishamn, where she comes from, has been an important source of inspiration., She collects images from long walks in the Osterlen landscape, with its hills, beaches and sea. This landscape keeps reappearing in her paintings - and constitutes the poetic key to all her portraits. The landscape and the people in it form indivisible wholes, with silhouettes, profiles and horizons.
Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus first tutor was Lennart Rodhe, who was a strict pedagogue, focusing on form and colour.
Afier some time Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus moved on to Evert Lundquist's atelier. Evert Lundquist did not spend much time teaching technique, but sought general impressions and effects based on the pupil's temperament. Evert Lundquist' s free philosophical reflections came to mean a lot to Ingeborg Hultcrantz Marcus. For the first time she met a distinguished painter who continued and developed Edvard Munch and Carl Kylberg's message.
How is room created that allows for both security and freedom? Room for a person with agoraphobia as well as one that suffers from claustrophobia. This is a question that continues to concern lngeborg Hultcrantz Marcus.
