"Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras" (1913-1914) by the Italian-American painter Joseph Stella (1877-1946) is a seminal work of Futurism. Stella was a key figure in American Modernism, known for his ability to capture the energy of the machine age. This painting, with its fragmented forms, vibrant colors, and a sense of chaotic motion, captures the dizzying and exhilarating spectacle of a modern amusement park.
