About the Artwork

Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist, and a pioneer of abstract art. He believed that color and form could express the artist's inner emotion and spiritual truths, founding the art movement of non-objective art. His work is characterized by dynamic compositions and a vibrant, expressive palette. Gelb-Rot-Blau (Yellow-Red-Blue) (1925) is a seminal work from his Bauhaus period. It uses a dynamic arrangement of shapes and colors to create a sense of movement and spiritual depth. The painting is a beautiful example of his belief in the power of abstract art to express pure feeling, without reference to the natural world.
