About the Artwork

Robert Delaunay (1885-1941) was a French painter who was a key figure in the development of abstract art. He was a co-founder of Orphism, a movement that explored the use of color to create form and rhythm. His work is characterized by a dynamic, almost musical use of color and geometric forms. La Ville de Paris (The City of Paris) is a monumental work that reflects his fascination with modern life. The painting, with its fragmented forms and a sense of rhythmic motion, captures the dynamic energy of the city. It is a beautiful example of his ability to fuse abstraction with modern urban life.
