Pierre-Auguste Cot (1837–1883) was a French painter of the academic tradition. He was known for his elegant portraits and his allegorical scenes, which often featured a masterful handling of light and a beautiful rendering of the human form. His work is a beautiful example of the classical tradition. The Storm (1880) is a famous and enchanting work. The painting, with its beautiful and sensual figures, captures a moment of idyllic intimacy.
