Jacques-Louis David (1748–1825) was a French painter and a leading figure of the Neoclassical movement. He was a master of grand historical and mythological scenes, known for his refined, academic style and his powerful compositions that conveyed moral and political messages. Mars Being Disarmed by Venus (1824) is a beautiful and elegant work. The painting, with its refined forms and a sense of classical harmony, depicts a famous mythological scene. It is a beautiful example of his mastery of the academic tradition and his ability to create a sense of timeless grace.
