About the Artwork

"Reading the Story of Oenone" (ca. 1883) by the American painter Francis Davis Millet (1846-1912) is a classic Pre-Raphaelite-inspired narrative scene. Millet, who worked in England and America, was known for his literary and historical subjects, rendered with meticulous detail. This painting illustrates a mythological tale with a romantic sensibility and elegant figures.
