Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) was an English Romantic painter, printmaker, and watercolorist. Known as "the painter of light," he was a master of expressive landscapes and seascapes, often capturing the dramatic power of nature and the effects of light and atmosphere with his fluid, vigorous brushwork. Modern Rome - Campo Vaccino (1839) is a majestic work that showcases Turner's fascination with historical landscapes. It depicts the ancient Roman Forum, transforming the historical site into a luminous and romantic vision. The painting is a beautiful example of his ability to evoke both a sense of the past and a modern, emotional response to the scene.
