"Abstraction (also) Lady in Abstract" (ca. 1921; reworked ca. 1923–26) by the American artist Jay van Everen (1870-1961) is a fascinating work of American Modernism. Van Everen was an artist who explored the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. This painting, with its simplified forms and rich palette, shows his unique approach to breaking down the human figure into a powerful and rhythmic arrangement of shapes.
