"Improvisation 13" (1910) by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) is a seminal work in the history of abstraction. A pioneer of non-objective art, Kandinsky believed that color and form could express inner emotions and spiritual truths. This painting, part of his "Improvisation" series, is a dynamic and expressive arrangement of forms and colors, reflecting his move away from representational art.
