EURAD presented Franco-Scandinavian architecture and design in Copenhagen during the 1988 cultural programme linking France and Denmark.
02 · STOCKHOLM · NOVEMBER 1988
The programme continued in Stockholm, presenting architecture and design within major Swedish cultural institutions and attracting national press coverage.
European creators among the leading figures in their professions were brought together across complementary disciplines. The programme involved more than 100 creators and works spanning painting, architecture, decoration, industrial design, graphic design and fashion.
Designers presented included A. Mimoglou, S. Dubuisson, P. Starck, Wettergren, O. Gubi, P. Walin, C. Bonderup, J. Foersom, G. Weber, N.J. Haugersen and others.
The exhibitions took place under the patronage of the President of the Commission of the European Communities, the Mayor of Paris, and the French-Danish Association of Commerce, with support from the French Ministry of Culture & Communication, the French Ministry of Housing, the EEC, and private sponsors.
The Swedish newspaper discussed the dominance of modernism and “High Tech” within the Stockholm exhibition and referred to major French architectural projects.
The review commented on French architecture shown through photographs and drawings, and on the relationship between that architecture and contemporary French furniture design.
Reporting from Copenhagen, the newspaper noted the harmonious coexistence of architecture, decorative arts and contemporary furniture design at Charlottenborg.
The principle visible in Copenhagen and Stockholm remains central today: bring creators from different disciplines together, present their work in meaningful environments, and connect creativity with the public.
